The tourney was a 9 rounds 4 0 swiss tournament, and it saw 120 participants. The tourney was carried on smoothly, with only exception of Tokjogho who was disqualified since he let another, stronger player use his account.

At the end of the tournament 3 men were tied at 7.5/9 but the tie-breaker proclamed ThoBjo winner with a Bucholz of 48.0. Second was BuccoAle with Bucholz 46.0 and third Alternate with 36.5

Benko Opening, A00
notes by ThoBjo

Position after 26.Bxf4
1.g3 c6 2.Bg2 d5 3.d3 e5 4.Nf3 Bd6 5.e4 Nf6 6.Nc3 Be6 I wanted to get away from common lines, since I know that alexeyl's theory knowledge is greater than mine. 7.O-O O-O 8.Ng5 Qe7 9.Nxe6 fxe6 10.Re1 Nbd7 11.h3 Qf7 I think I played this too fast, black should double his rooks on the f-file and put some pressure on f2. 12.Qe2 Bc5 13.Nd1 Kh8 14.c3 Bb6 15.Kh2 Ne8 16.Rf1 Nd6 17.Bd2 Qe7 18.Ne3 Rf7 19.Ng4 Raf8 Here I felt quite satisfied with my position, but as alexeyl will show white doesn't have a bad position either. 20.Rae1 Re8 To avoid losing the e5-pawn after 21.exd5. Maybe the pressure on f2 is enough compensation for black, but I didn't realize it at the moment. 21.h4 d4 22.c4 c5 23.Kg1 Rff8 24.Bg5 Qf7 25.f4! Ouch, didn't see it coming. Now white has a clear advantage. 25... exf4 26.Bxf4 (see diagram) 26... Nf5 White can't capture 27.exf5 right away because of 27. ... exf5 28.Ne5 Nxe5 29.Bxe5 Bc7. 27.Ne5! Very nice move, if the queen moves there will follow Nxd7 and then exf5. 27... Nxe5 28.Bxe5 Ba5 29.Rb1 Qg6 30.exf5 exf5 31.Bd5?? Losing. Better was 31.g4 f4 32.Rf2 Qe6 (32... Bc7?? 33.Be4 Rxe5 34.Bxg6 Rxe2 35.Rxe2 hxg6 and the game is won for white.) 33.Bxg7+ Kxg7 34.Qxe6 Rxe6 35.Rbf1 and white has a small advantage, but I doubt he can get more than a draw. 31... Bc7 32.Bxg7+ Qxg7 33.Qg2 Re3 34.Rf3 Rxf3 35.Qxf3 Re8 36.Qxf5? Makes the win a lot easier for black. This move is best explained by the fact that alexeyl didn't have much time left (neither of us did). 36... Qxg3+ 37.Kf1 Qxh4 38.Be4 Bd6 39.Ke2 Rf8 40.Qxh7+ 40.Rh1 was the last chance to make it a little difficult for black, now the win is easy 40... Qxh7 41.Bxh7 Kxh7 42.Rg1 The rest of the game was played at the speed of light and is therefore better left without comments. 42... Re8+ 43.Kd1 Bf4 44.Rg4 Bh6 45.Rh4 Re3 46.Kc2 Re2+ 47.Kb3 Rd2 48.Rh5 a5 49.Rxc5 Rxd3+ 50.Ka4 Rd2 51.b3 Rxa2+ 52.Kb5 d3 53.Rd5 d2 54.c5 Rb2 55.Kxa5 Rxb3 56.Rd4 Rb1 57.Rd7+ Kg6 58.c6 bxc6 59.Rd6+ Kf5 60.Rd5+ Ke4 61.Rxd2 Bxd2+ 62.Ka6 Kd5 63.Ka7 c5 64.Ka8 Kc6 65.Ka7 Be3 66.Ka8 Kc7 White ran out of time.

Position after 24.exd5
1.c3 d6 2.d4 g6 3.Nf3 Bg7 4.Bg5 Nd7 5.e3 c5 6.Bd3 Ngf6 7.O-O a6 8.Nbd2 b5 9.Re1 Qc7 10.e4 e5 11.dxc5 dxc5 12.c4 b4 13.Nb3 a5 14.a4 Bb7 Here I saw: 14. ...bxa3 15.Rxa3 Nb6 16.Qa1 a4 17.Be3 15.Qc2 maybe Qe2 is better 15. ...O-O 16.Rad1 Rfd8 17.Nbd2 h6 18.Bh4 g5?! The white knight now aims both at d5 and f5 19.Bg3 Nh5 20.Nf1 Nxg3 21.hxg3 with idea:Ne3 and Nd5 21. ...Nf8 22.Ne3 Ne6 23.Nd5 Bxd5 23. ...Qd6 24.Be2 Nd4 with an unclear position 24.exd5 (see diagram) 24. ... Nf8? I noticed 24. ... Nd4 25.Qd2 Rf8 and I really didn't know how to reply. 25.Qe2 Ra6 26.Qe4 now white has the initiative 26. ... Ng6 27.b3 fixing the pawn structure, but I think it's a waste of time 27. ... Re8 28.Nh2 How about going to f5? 28. ... Raa8 29.Ng4 Re7 30.Ne3 Rf8 31.Bb1 Nf5 can wait... 31. ... Rfe8? here Black had little time. 32.d6 Qd7 33.dxe7 Qxe7 Now white has only to move fast to win 34.Nf5 Qe6 35.Nxg7 Kxg7 36.Qe2 f5 37.Qd3 Re7 38.Qxf5 Qxf5 39.Bxf5 Nf8 40.Rd5 Kf6 41. g4 h5 42.f3 hxg4 43.Rd6+ Kxf5 44.fxg4+ Kxg4 45.Rd5 Kf4 46.Rxc5 e4 47.Rf1+ Ke3 48.Rxf8 Kd2 49.Rd5+ Kc3 50.c5 e3 51.Rf3 Kxb3 52.Rd3+ Kc4 53.Rfxe3 Rg7 54.c6 b3 55.Rxb3 Kc5 56.Rbc3+ Kd6 57.c7 Rxc7 58.Red3+ Ke5 59.Rxc7 Ke4 60.Rb3 g4 61.Rc4+ Kf5 62.Rxg4 Kxg4 63.Rb5 Kf4 64.Rxa5 Kg4 65.Rb5 Kg3 66.a5 Kg4 67.a6 Kf4 68.a7 Kg3 69.Rb1 Kh4 70.a8=R Kg3 71.Ra3+ Kf4 72.Rb4+ Ke5 73.Ra5+ Kd6 74.Rb6+ Kc7 75.Rh6 Kd7 76.Ra7+ Kc8 77.Rh8#
