TEAM 45 45 LEAGUE
While there are many players on FICS who enjoy the breakneck speed of 1 0
chess, some of us enjoy playing at a more leisurely rate. There is an
organized league for those who actually enjoy sitting back and
thoughtfully pondering over a move, without having their fingers poised
on thier mouse waiting on their opponent's move, ready to pounce.
The 45 45 league is organized so that teams of up to 6 players can be
matched with other teams. Four members of a team are matched up against
another team; the game's time limit being 45 minutes, with 45 second
increments per move. The team that scores the most points in the match
wins that particular match.
The league is popular enough to have
divisions on both FICS and ICC. There are divisions within each server
of teams with an average rating (for the top 4 boards) of under 2000 and
under 1600; a new division on both FICS and ICC has been started this
season with an average rating of under 1300.
In the current season (16th) of the 45 45 league, there are 7 FICS teams
in the U2000 divisions A Patchwork Orange, The Hardcore Pawns, and the
Chessfield Bears in the Redwood Division; meanwhile, in the Cypress
Division, there are the Chess Tigers, Patzer Posse, The Chessperadoes,
and The Impervious Strangulators. In the U1600 division, there are 4
teams The Patchworks (for which your humble reporter plays), Anna's
Bananas, The Poisioned Pawns, and The Kibitzers. In the U1300 divison on
FICS, there are two teams slugging it out The Patchwork Patzers, and The
Lumbering Wombats.
After divisional play is over with, then the fun starts! Inter-server
playoff matches start up with the divisional winners, with the winners
of these matches/tourneys being declared champs of their particular
rating groups.
